Blood drive a big success
To the editor:
Wentworth School students from the north wing spearheaded a Red Cross blood drive May 22.
Third, fourth and fifth graders learned about the need to donate blood and the blood donation process. They wrote letters to family members and friends asking them to donate blood by giving up one hour of their time. North wing fifth-grade volunteers escorted donors, helping at the snack canteen, taking pictures and running errands. Many very positive comments were offered by the Red Cross staff. The results were as follows: 60 scheduled donors; 136 presenting donors; 28 deferrals; 37 first-time donors; 89 walk-ins; and 111 productive units.
A great thank you is extended to community members that took time to donate blood and make this event successful.
