Students recognized for bike-a-thon effort

Certificates of recognition and awards were handed out Thursday, Dec. 13 to students from Scarborough Middle School, who raised more than $10,000 for Frannie Peabody Center at the 26th annual Ed Wimert Memorial Bike/Walk-A-Thon for AIDS.

The $10,000 total represents the most money raised by the event in the past five years and is almost double the amount from last year.

More than 100 students participated in this year’s bikea thon, which began in 1986, and has now topped the $200,000 mark in total money raised for Frannie Peabody Center over the years.

“It is so wonderful to see the children’s excitement and have the chance to tell them how much their efforts mean to us,” said Lorena Delcourt, finance director for the center. “I hope they know what a significant impact they are making in peoples’ lives.”
