Boys’ indoor track wins third straight state title

Red Storm girls place ninth

While the girls’ hockey team fell just short of earning its first state title Feb. 16, the Scarborough High School boys’ indoor track team came together two days later on Monday, Feb. 18 to earn its third straight Class A state title.

The Red Storm, which scored 61 points in the meet, was able to hold off Cheverus — the second place team — thanks to Greg Viola and Alec James taking first and second in the pole vault and Robert Hall placing second and Colin Tardiff fourth in the one-mile race.

Hall and Tardiff also placed in the two-mile race. Ryan Jamison helped Scarborough score in three events, including a fifth place finish in the 55-meter hurdles and a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash.

Jamison also ran the third leg on Scarborough’s 4x200 relay team, which finished second behind the quartet from Cheverus.

The Red Storm girls’ indoor track team finished the state meet in ninth place.

Morgan Rodway, Katherine Kirk, Jessica Meader and Avery Pietras were able the defend Scarborough’s first-place finish in the 4x200 relay.

Scarborough placed third in the 4x800 relay and Pietras placed in the 200, with Sarah Rinaldi and Aly Atherton scoring points in the high jump event.

It was the first time in nearly a decade the team had not won the state championship.
