To the editor:
On Thursday April 25, we were visited by Louise Capizzo and Celeste Shinay of the children’s section of the Scarborough Public Library.
They read stories to the children waiting with their parents and gave them a free book. How special is that? It was a huge success for the children, for the 72 clients waiting to receive food and for all of the volunteers at the Cupboard.
Louise and Celeste will be back. Lucky kids, lucky us.
Also, Allie Kill and her friend Emily, graduate students working on their master’s degrees, volunteered recently, too. They needed to write a paper on how a food pantry was handling food insecurity. They picked a perfect day.
While story time was happening, a trucker from North Carolina had 34 cases of frozen turkey breasts to donate and he got lost finding us. He ended up coming down Thierlmere Street with one the biggest trucks we have ever seen and we received our quarterly USDA donation of 92 cases of frozen and canned goods.
