So much for transparency in government

To the editor:

The amount of the revised school department budget approved by the Town Council will not be reported until after the voters’ validation vote.

According to the town manager and verified to the town’s website Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m., the council will have a first reading (already happened Wednesday) and a second and final reading next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Your validation vote on June 30 is less than a week later. The council can move quickly when it wants. State law does not require a vote until July 24.

My opinion is: so much for the idea of transparency in government and an informed citizenry.

Draw your own opinion, share your thoughts with the council and attend the second reading next Wednesday, June 24.

We have a right to be heard, even if they don’t really listen.
