Candidate honored forum commitment

To the editor:

I have never been prouder of my husband, Robert Rowan, than I was on the evening of the candidates’ forum.

Following his sister’s unexpected death early that morning, he spent the day with his parents doing all of the heart wrenching things you have to do after the death of a loved one.

I suggested that he skip the forum, but, he had made a commitment to be there, and he showed up.

I like to tell him that he has a genetic predisposition to step up when he’s needed. You need help moving – he’s your guy. You want to put together a swing set for your children – he couldn’t say no if he tried.

Short on soccer coaches – why not? His mother ended up on the school board in Cumberland years ago based on a similar predisposition. I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to marry him.

Robert is not only willing to help, but he’s qualified. He has years of legislative advocacy under his belt, a solid understanding of financial matters, experience with leadership as the chief technology officer of a local company, he has started two small businesses in Scarborough, and his mind is both open and exceptionally sharp.

We put down roots in Scarborough with the hope of joining a supportive and welcoming community, and this community has exceeded those expectations. Robert is stepping forward as a candidate for town council with gratitude, with an open mind and with the certainty that, working together, we can do just a little better for all of our citizens.

I hope you’ll join me in voting for Robert Rowan for town council on Nov. 3.

Erin Rowan
