What happened to beachcleaning machine?

To the editor:

Whatever happened to the sharing of the machine that cleaned the beaches? I think Old Orchard Beach owned it but allowed Scarborough to use it. This was several years ago, but I thought it was still ongoing.

With the tax base Scarborough has, and the obvious importance of tourism to our town, I’d think a machine of our own and cleaning the beach more than once a week, could be easily justified; and use an employee of the PWD. No need to hire anyone.

For what it’s worth, seaweed makes an excellent addition to a compost pile. Perhaps a good destination for it. That, or a landfill – or both?
