Richard Devine

Richard H. Devine, 77, of Scarborough, died peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, after a prolonged period of declining health.

Dick was born in West Hartford, Connecticut, on Jan. 18, 1940, first child of the late John P. and Frances Hall Devine.

He graduated in 1958 from Fort Fairfield High School.

He met the love of his life and wife, Linda Merrithew Devine, who unfortunately predeceased him June 1, 1990.

While working most of his life in the banking business, he was an instrumental part of the mortgage division. It was very important for him to put his clients into home ownership.

His career led him into different aspects of the mortgage industry and many different companies, spanning over 40 years in banking. He retired from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in May 1, 2002.

Dick was a member of the Elks Club in Portland. He attended St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Scarborough. He was an avid Red Sox fan and he seldom missed watching a game.

Dick’s grandchildren brought much happiness and fulfillment into his life.

He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Devine of Bangor.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Devine Caron and son-in-law, Richard W. Caron, Jr. of Scarborough; two grandchildren, Kristina M., and Kaleb W. Caron. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne and sister-in-law Patricia Devine of Bangor.

Dick will be deeply missed by his family and friends, including the family’s Shih Tzu, Lucy.

Per Dick’s wishes, a private graveside service will take place at a later date.
