Santa in the Park and Tree Lighting set for Saturday

By Nicole Hall Special to the Leader

Do you start gearing up for the Christmas holiday as soon as the Thanksgiving celebrations have concluded? Are you looking forward to trimming the tree, singing carols and drinking hot cocoa on a cold winter’s night?

We’re right there with you. Scarborough Community Services is once again hosting the annual Santa in the Park and Tree Lighting event on Saturday, Dec. 2 and this year promises even more holiday cheer.

Bundle up and join us in beautiful Memorial Park for a chance to meet with Santa and tell him what you want for that special gift. Local chorus groups will provide live music during the event as we count down to the tree lighting.

Scarborough Rotary Club, with the help of On the Vine Marketplace and Sam’s Club, will provide hot chocolate and goodies to event attendees.

Be sure to take a free ride on the new trackless train and visit the Scarborough Cheering Club, who will be selling wreaths during the event as a fundraiser.

Home Depot will also join us this year with free build-your-own toy kits. As always, we will have many fire pits going to keep everyone warm and tractor rides to transport people to and from the Scarborough High School parking lots.

Be sure to bring a camera to capture the fun and stay for the fireworks display at the end of the night. Hope to see everyone there.

Santa in the Park and Tree Lighting is a free family event hosted by the Community Services Department.

Wagon rides from the high school parking lots begin at 4 p.m. and the event runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. We hope to see everyone there to kick off the Holiday season.

Nicole Hall is administrative coordinator for Scarborough Community Services.
