U.S. Cellular associates and Sea Dogs employees welcomed participants of the Scarborough Softball organization for a fun minor league baseball experience, including Slugger the Sea Dog and in-game promotions.

The event, held on the varsity softball diamond at Scarborough High School, began with the singing of the national anthem and announcements of each youth softball player as the softball teams, the Volk Packaging vs. On-Target Utility, took the field.

The teams played a softball game and participated in traditional Sea Dogs entertainment for fans, such as the Sea Dogs Trash Monster, pizza toss, musical chairs and an array of other in-game surprises, while Sea Dogs mascot, Slugger, cheered.

“At U.S. Cellular, we’re focused on making an impact in the communities we serve,” said Matt Kasper, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in New England. “It was so much fun to watch as these kids enjoyed a day in the life of a professional baseball player. They all had such a great attitude and soaked in the excitement of the Sea Dogs experience.”

Volunteers distributed customized water bottles and also handed out complimentary concession items to fans throughout the game.

“It was such a great day for the kids to experience what it’s like to play in a Portland Sea Dogs game,” said Kevin Cote, vice president of Scarborough Little League. “From the player announcements to hanging out with Slugger, we are grateful to U.S. Cellular and the Portland Sea Dogs for such a memorable day.”

The Portland Sea Dogs are the Double A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
