Thanks to community support, Bikes for Books still going strong

To the editor,

For the fourth year in a row, Governor William King Lodge of Scarborough ran our Bikes for Books program at Wentworth Intermediate School.

With the support of the community and local businesses, we were able to provide 48 new bikes and helmets for some lucky kids in grades 3 through 5.

For each book that a child read during the school year, they received one entry into a raffle from which the winners were selected. Over the past four years, we’ve given out 200 bikes to encourage the kids to continue to excel at reading.

This wouldn’t be possible without the help of the following individuals, businesses, and organizations: Foy Insurance, Hannaford, Southern Maine Orthodontics, Dr. Meg Pickering, Biddeford Savings Bank, Team Kyle, Moody’s Collision, Amato’s Italian Sandwich Shop, Michele Raber at State Farm, Fielding Oil and Propane, Turning Point Cycle and Fitness, John Hughes at Ameriprise, MEDCor, Pet Quarters, Sullivan Tire, Gerber Associates, Phantom Fireworks, Town and Country Federal Credit Union, Beech Ridge Speedway, Jon Marston, Kate St. Clair, Dan Cook, Jenn Pulvino, the Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation, and the members of Governor William King Lodge.

We also want to thank all of the students, teachers and staff at Wentworth Intermediate School for their support and hard work with this program. We sincerely appreciate it.
