Candidate’s bi-partisan work is ‘laudable’

To the editor,

State Sen. Amy Volk is an experienced legislator who gets results. In 2015, I worked with Sen. Volk on LD 1134 – An Act To Require the Department of Health and Human Services To Distribute Information Regarding Down Syndrome to Providers of Prenatal and Postnatal Care and to Genetic Counselors.

Volk was a champion of this bill which was a long-term goal of Down Syndrome advocates in Maine. She expertly shepherded the bill through the committee process and listened to opponents respectfully. In the end, she worked with all parties on an amended bill and the legislation sailed through both chambers into law.

For her efforts, she was given the Buddy Award from the Maine Down Syndrome Network. That award is given annually for contributions to the quality of life, awareness, and acceptance of people with Down syndrome.

Volk’s bi-partisan work is laudable and her caring for her constituents is evident every day in Augusta. This senate district is well-served with her representation and she is an asset to the state senate. Vote Volk for senate in November.
