Gavin McLeod, a sophomore at Scarborough High School, took first place in the 500 freestyle at the Class A boys’ championship swim meet at Bowdoin College on Feb 18. He shed 14.49 seconds off his best time, finishing in 4:45.51, out-touching Brim Peabody (Cheverus) who was second in 4:45.55. Gavin McLeod, above, was recently named Boys’ North Southwestern Swimmer of the Year. Scarobough High School Swimming coach Eric French, right, was named coach of the year. In addition to winning the 500 freestyle, McLeod was third in the 200 freestyle and swam a leg of the second-place 400 freestyle relay. Also on the relay team were Sam Curtis, Andrew Pilsbury and Finn Davis. The Red Storm boys placed fourth as a team.
