The traditional countdown to the Aug. 5 TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race got underway July 5 with the placement of the mile markers along the coastal course in Cape Elizabeth. Cape Elizabeth Public Works employees Darren Brown, right, and Jason Emery installed the markers along the route. This is the 20th year for road race, founded by Olympic gold medalist and Cape Elizabeth native Joan Benoit Samuelson. Maine’s largest road race, which attracts top international and American runners, begins near Crescent Beach and ends in Fort Williams Park at the historic Portland Head light. The 2017 race beneficiary is Let’s Go!, a nationally recognized program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. (Photo courtesy of Photography by Ann Kaplan) 2p1.jpg
